WiVi – WiMesh Visualization http://143.248.238.6/~sachin/realization/ Updated node status and link status at every 15 sec Connection Graph Node Status: # of clients connected Link Status: Link bandwidth with colors Node Detail Report For the measurement Control Panel Network configurations (Power, channel, …)
What was observed in WiMESH? Node Numbering Convention 35 Floor Numbering from left to right Significant Throughput Degradation: 1. First hour/Lunch 2. Dinner/Office End Time Link is characterized by mainly: 1. Interference 2. Noise 3. Topology • Time Varying Channel Influencing • Factor Needs more Attention: • Human Body Effect
Some Experimental Result Throughput decrease due to the effect of human movements 12:30pm~3:30pm Throughput decreases less in holidays signifying human interference a key for channel degradation. Throughput decrease at dinner and office leaving time as people move in and out of their offices. 4:30pm~6:30pm 9pm~10:30pm
Non-Ionizing Ionizing Transmitted EMW Diffracted EMW Reflected EMW Incident EMW Partial Absorption TotalAbsorption Human Body in EMW • EM Wave gets absorbed depending on RF Freq Our model reveals only 40% of incident wave is reflected back to the medium.
Demo. 1I Vertical Handoff
Vertical Handoff (WiBro & WiMesh) WiBro BS Internet WiMesh MR Dual Box WiBro Network WiMesh Network WiMesh Network
Implementation Issues • Implementation constraints • WiBro BS is not amenable to us • There is no support of WiBro device driver in Linux • Only PCMCIA card can be used in KAIST WiBro • Implementation details • Two systems with different OS need to be integrated and connected via cross-cable • Windows XP laptop • Interface to the WiBro • Internet Connection Sharing between Ethernet and WiBro • Ubuntu Linux mini pc • Linux pc might set the laptop as the gateway of its Ethernet • Priority assignment through shell programming • If WiFi-based WiMesh disappears, WiBro connection would be used

Demo. 1II VoIP Handoff
WiMesh Handoff Architecture Mobile IP -Protocol stack is required - Some dedicated systems are required WiMesh Mobility Management - Intra-domain: Routing protocol - Inter-domain : Tunneling Routing Table Updated Tunneling NAT Routing Table Updated WiMeshArchitecture Advantages 1. Without mobile IP (Fixed IP address) 2. Applicable to all of IP devices 3. Distributed mobility management WiMesh Mobility Management - Intra-domain: Mesh router (As an AP) - Inter-domain : Mesh gateway
