  1. WRC 2000 RESULTS - GPS Jim Vorhies U.S. Spokesman jvorhies@ntia.doc.gov June 2000

  2. WRC 2000 RESULTS - GPS • No MSS at 1559-1567 • RESOLUTION 220 Suppressed • Further studies on MSS explicitly exclude further consideration of 1559-1610 MHz band

  3. WRC 2000 RESULTS - GPS • L5 Allocation made at 1164-1215 MHz • Galileo E5 also allocated (to be centered at 1202.5) • Provisional PFD allows Galileo narrowband signal • Aggregate PFD -115 acceptable to aviation interests for present - further study called-for

  4. WRC 2000 RESULTS - GPS • Galileo also 1260-1300 MHz available • Concern expressed about interference from high-powered C/A signal at L2 by France and Germany • U.S. insisted no PFD at this WRC for L2 • Agreed to further study of PFD required to protect radars for 1215-1300 MHz

  5. WRC 2000 RESULTS - GPS • Galileo also got 5010-5030 MHz for downlink • 5000-5010 MHz and 1300-1350 MHz for uplink • Galileo official position is all of these will be used

  6. WRC 2000 RESULTS - GPS • Galileo downplayed need for L1 and L2 overlay • Galileo insisted needed three wideband signals

  7. WRC 2000 RESULTS - GPS • Space to Space allocation made in the 1559-1610 and 1215-1260 MHz bands as U.S. proposed • These allocations have a condition that no constraints be placed on MSS operating in adjacent bands • Space to space also allocated in the 1164-1215,1260-1300, 5010-5130 MHz bands

  8. WRC 2000 RESULTS - GPS • Footnotes allocating the 1559-1610 MHz band to fixed and mobile services in some countries were modified to reduce the status of these services to secondary in 2005 and to remove the allocation by 2015 • Several Arab countries delay the change to secondary status until 2010
