Introduction to ”Strawman” on Infrastructures - description of research facilities related to aquaculture and experimental biologybyØystein BrunDirector Technical InfrastructureInstitute of Marine Research (IMR)Bergen, Norwayoysteinb@imr.no
Purpose • Give an introduction to how a website for describing research facilities related to aquaculture and experimental biology could look like • Facilitate ideas and develop information requirements • The following is just an example and not intended to be the final design • The data provided is just example data
How to describe infrastructure • The information requirements and catagories provided in the ”strawman” are based on: • Some internal presentations of infrastructure • A small survey among scientists at IMR • The following is an example of what it could look like…
EurOcean maintains a searchable database of the research infrastructures in Europe. If you are aware of any infrastructure that is not yet in this database or any other updates please contact EurOcean or insert yourself a new record and updates. • The database includes a description of infrastructures related to aquaculture and experimental marine biology. • The following research infrastructures are included: • Land and sea based aquaculture facilities • Laboratories related to aquaculture and/or experimental biology • Other infrastructure related to aquaculture and/or experimental biology Continue

Matre Research Station Owner: Norwegian Institute of Marine Research Web: www.imr.no Address: 5984 Matredal, Norway Position: 60,874084N 5,579939E Point of Contact(POC): Øivind Torslett oivindt@imr.no +47 00 00 00 00 Historic outline: Since the opening in 1971 the Research Station in Matre, north of Bergen, has been the core facility for the salmon research. It was modernized in 2006 with new water supplies, new and better experimental facilities and new analytical laboratories. The facilities are designed to do both small and large-scale studies on current and future aquaculture species. The facilities are also excellent for studies on wild fish species, including climate-change studies and pollution related experiments.
