Charles Branas, who is from the University of Pennsylvania, decided to conduct a study about concealed weapons. He decided to focus the study on the safety of people who carry concealed weapons, compared to the safety of those who don’t carry them. Charles conducted this study the same way that many diseases are studied (Flam D. 1.).
Charles’ study showed that on average, people that carry concealed weapons are not protected by them. In fact, his study showed that carrying a concealed weapon raised the risk of getting shot by about four times (Flam D. 1.).
Sometimes, concealed weapons can deter crimes, like robbery. In some situations, concealed weapons can encourage violence, for example, the person with the concealed weapon may not be experienced with it, and have it used against them by the attacker (Kumar n.p.).
“People shouldn’t feel that firearms are going to enhance their safety” - Charles Branas (Flam D. 1.)
“The U.S. has a far higher rate of gun violence than any other developed country, if guns really made us safer, we should be the safest country on Earth.” -Bryan Miller (Flam D. 1.)
