Preschool Day • Morning session starts at 9:00am and ends at 11:30 • Afternoon session starts at 1:00pm and ends at 3:30pm
Drop off • Drop off at 8:55 and 12:55 in front of the school. We will meet you on the sidewalk, line up, and walk into the building as a class. Please walk your child in through the office doors if you arrive after those times.
Daily Schedule • Sensory Time- fine motor activity • Morning/Afternoon Message – large group discussion • Small group time- literacy, math, and fine motor skills • Centers- home (will change with the monthly theme), blocks, book nook, art, sand/sensory table, puzzle and games, writing center, and music center • Story Time- literacy skills • Snack/Social time • Outside- gross motor activity
Star Helpers • Attendance Helper • Line Leader • Light Helper • Color and Shape Helper • Letter of the Day • Number of the Day • Calendar Helper • Music Helper • Weather Helpers • Everyone has a job and we work together
Snack Time • Provide 20 servings of snack the 1st week of every month • Prepackaged with the label attached • No peanut products (see handouts from the school nurse)
Creative Curriculum • 50 standards in the following areas: Social Emotional, Physical Development, Cognitive Development, and Language Development. • Each standard has 4 developmental steps. • Use anecdotal notes and works samples to determine where child fits on continuum.
Social Development • Recognizes feelings and manages them appropriately • Respects and cares for classroom environment and materials • Follows routines • Video example- Responds to cues (social interaction)
Physical Development • Gross Motor- climbing, running, jumping, hopping, throwing, kicking • Fine Motor- Controls small muscles in hand and writing name • Video- uses writing and drawing tools
Language • Having conversations with peers and teachers • Using longer sentences and social rules • Video- social rules of language
Cognitive • Solving problems, persisting, attending, engaging in socio-dramatic play, classification • Video- Classification skills
Literacy • Letter/sound identification, rhyming, retells stories, uses emergent reading skills, writes to convey meaning • Video- Retell story
Math • Counting, connects numbers with their quantities, shapes, measures, patterns • Real-world applications: ex- measuring ingredients on a recipe card or measuring fish caught on a magnetic fishing pole using a tape measure • Video- Connects numbers…
Assessment • Portfolio- collect work samples for entire year and compare progress, share that data with parents • Report card • IGDIS data collection- rhyming words, alliteration, segment blending, picture naming • GOLD Assessment (link to this assessment will be on our blog) • Conferences in November and February
PBS- Positive Behavior Supports • Bucket Filling - respectful, responsible, safe, and caring. We do this as a class to earn class rewards • Focus on the positive behaviors happening in the classroom, as opposed to pointing out the negative ones • Preschool participates in PBIS assemblies
About Ms. Rowe • Recent Simpson College Elementary Education Degree – summa cum laude • Endorsed in Early Childhood, Instructional Strategy I Special Education, and Reading • Built and directed two child development day care centers • Entrepreneur of the year 1999 • Husband: Scott – six adult children, five in college, one engaged, and one with our first grandbaby on the way! • Selling our house of 17 years in Carlisle and live in West Des Moines
