WELCOME TO HAINES CITY IB GRADUATES OF 2023!!! http://www.ibo.org/diploma/
How did you get here tonight? • Letters were given to all eighth grade students who ended the 7th grade with a 3.25 grade point average or above and/or a 3 or above on their FSA Reading Test. • Application process Completed • Passed the SAT-10 Exam • Accepted the IB invitations • So, What's Next???
What is IB? • IB is an acronym for International Baccalaureate. • IB high schools use a specific rigorous curriculum that aims to develop and challenge inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who are motivated to succeed. • IB schools strive to develop students who will build a better world through intercultural understanding and respect.
WHAT IS THE IB DIPLOMA PROGRAM? The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program is a rigorous two year pre-university course of study. • Students participate in a Florida Pre-IB program in grades 9 and 10 to develop a strong academic foundation for the IB Diploma Program. • The Diploma Program is specifically the 11th and 12th grades. • Students take Six IB subjects and each subject culminates in an exam at the end of the two years. • Successful completion of the Diploma Program automatically earns our students their High School Diploma.
PARENTS: WHAT TO EXPECT • Transition from middle school can be a shock. The overwhelming majority of our curriculum is not driven by the state based standardized exams. It emphasizes critical thinking, writing, analyzing information and application. Many of our students become overwhelmed at first. Encourage them to hang in there!!! We will provide them with the necessary skills to become proficient. • Adjustment to homework. • Necessity for organization and time management. • Recognition that your child will have ups and downs in terms of workload. • Don’t put the community service off until the last minute; it always gets busier towards the end. • Your child may receive their first “B” or “C”; remember Pre-IB courses are the most rigorous coursework available. This is what colleges and universities are looking for. • This is a commitment for the entire family, not just your child.
SCHOOL HOURS & SCHEDULING MODEL • Pink Bell Schedule in Folder • Student Drop Off begins at 6:30 AM and gets very busy around 6:45 AM (Be sure you leave yourselves plenty of time.) • *Our school day begins at 7:00 AM and ends at 1:50 PM • *Currently our school utilizes a straight 7 period day.
