  2. Rhetoric Analysis • Analyzing a work, or a text, using rhetoric techniques such as going in depth with your studies rather than just consuming the information. To help yourself to go in depth you use different strategies. • Exigence: The need or a problem that needs to be overcome. • Purpose: The function of the work or text. What is it supposed to be serving as? • Pathos: Pathetic appeal (directs to emotions.) • Logos: Logical appeal (the facts.) • Ethos: Ethical appeal (credibility.) • Audience: People who are most influenced by the work. • Rhetor: The people who create the works shown to us (the people.) • Constraints: What things help to “persuade/sell” the work created, or what holds it back from being “sold.”

  3. Exigence • The need for your hair to be beautiful and strong. • The need to look pretty. • Confidence and strength.

  4. Purpose/Message • To sell you a hair product by persuading you that it is the best product out there. • Pathos: If you use this product, you won’t need to worry about looking bad, getting the boys, or confidence. “Transports you to a different world.” • Ethos: Nicole Scherzinger is “selling” the product. She is beautiful, a well known singer, from the pussy cat dolls, and has been on tv. • Logos: Using appeals such as: “10x stronger,” “uses natural ingredients: honey and apricot extracts,” “helps restore hair,” “makes hair silky.”

  5. Audience • Directed/Primary Audience • Woman. • Young woman. • Teenage girls who… • Secondary/Undirected Audience • Older woman who want to look younger. • Guys that want to buy this for their girlfriend so they can look like Nicole Scherzinger.

Constrains • Positive: • People who have bad trouble with hair in the past. • People who admire Nicole Scherzinger. • If people currently own Herbal Essences products. • Negative • People who do not have television or internet. • Guys, no need to use this product. • Older woman who like ratted up hair.
