Discipline Training Module By Charlie Howard
Needs Assessment: Teachers are sending students to office for discipline concerns without applying suggested preventive plan causing increase in written discipline referrals. Teachers fail to follow school’s plan of action prior to referring students to office for discipline. State not satisfied with large amount of written referrals.
Needs Assessment: Analysis of the gap between what is and what should be • The gap is that students challenge the school’s disciplinary system to test limits while teachers fail to apply school’s disciplinary protocol accordingly. • Teachers need to become familiar with the school’s plan of action on how to properly approach and implement discipline concerns.

To many educators are taking discipline concerns into their own hands by simply sending students to the front office with a referral prior to attempting to handle the situation in the classroom. Other educators are somewhat new and are not familiar with the school’s disciplinary protocol. A web-based training module will be conducted which will grasp the educators attention of how severe the situation has gotten and what is expected. Summary The children at my workplace are smart, ambitious and extremely talented, but despite these enormous virtues, some students cause a large amount of problems. Some educators simply do not want to deal with these disciplinary issues and some just don’t know how. Some teachers have decided that the best way to handle the situation is by sending the students to the front office with a disciplinary referral prior to applying the school’s disciplinary plan. The teachers have been instructed by the school in the past to apply in class punishment or consequences, but some do not take this request into consideration. The State has informed the District that to many referrals have been written for the current year and improvements need to take effect immediately. A web-based disciplinary training module is going to be conducted which will involve all teachers from all grade levels. The purpose of the training is to educate the teachers on how to handle discipline in the classroom and when to send a student to the front office with a referral. This training will be available as a web-based training module via internet.
