Payment options • Choose a payment plan • Indicate your selection on the NLU Promissory Note • Options include: • Term-by-term tuition payment plan • Deferred tuition payment plan • Financial aid • Direct billing to employer • Tuition reimbursement • Veterans benefits • NLU partnership discounts and scholarships • Submit the Promissory Note to your Enrollment or Academic Advisor

Applying for financial aid • You must be admitted to NLU to receive financial aid (exceptions may include nondegree programs which do not require admission) • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) using NLU school code 001733 • Complete verification (if applicable) • Review the financial aid award letter sent to your NLU email account • Note: You must be registered for classes to receive financial aid
Undergraduate financial aid • NLU scholarships • Donor and outside scholarships • Federal and state grants • Student loans • Federal work study (limited availability, contact us) • Teach grant (NCE only) Undergraduate awards may include NLU scholarships, Pell and SEOG Grants, MAP Grants, Federal Stafford and Parent PLUS student loans and outside scholarships.
Graduate Financial Aid • Donor and outside scholarships • Student loans • Federal work study (limited availability, contact us) • Graduate assistantships (limited availability, contact us) • NLU scholarships (NCE students only) • Teach grant (NCE students only) Graduate awards may include Federal Stafford and Graduate PLUS student loans.
If selected, you must complete verification before receiving your award letter • Not Selected for Verification—After you are admitted and registered you will receive a financial aid award letter indicating the amount and type of financial aid you are eligible to receive • Selected for Verification—You will receive a “tracking” letter. You will need to provide the required information before you will receive your financial aid award letter.
Accepting loans • Financial aid disbursements occur beginning in the second week of the term • First-time borrowers must sign a Federal Direct Student Loan promissory note and complete an entrance interview • A loan acceptance form will be included in your financial aid award letter
Book advances • If you receive financial aid, you can request a book advance • Use the online form to request a voucher/advance • You can request an advance up to three weeks before the term starts • Advances can be used to rent textbooks, purchase new or used textbooks, or purchase e-books • Be sure to visit the NLU Virtual Bookstore
Financial aid refunds • Refunds occur upon disbursement of financial aid providing there is a credit balance • Refunds are available for pick up or to be mailed • Refund checks will be mailed to the address on file unless you fill out a Refund Pick-Up Request Form
