Houses • They were built with cedar and fir planks • The door was a round hole cut at one corner. • The women and children slept in the house while the men slept in the sweathouses.
Food • Acorns • Salmon from the Trinity River • Deer and Elk were hunted in the forest. • They cooked their food over a fire or by boiling water in baskets, heated by hot rocks.
Clothing • Men wore deer skin around their hips. • Women wore skirts made of tree bark. • Men and women had their ears pierced to wear shell ornaments in them.
Ceremonies • They had two main ceremonies; one in the spring and one in the fall. • One of their feasts was called the Jumping Dance and the men would wear woodpecker scalps. • Before a dance there was a recital of sacred words that told how the ceremony first started.
