English in Year 1 • This term we are exploring: Stories in familiar settings, Labels and Captions, Recounts and Dictionary Skills. • Our spellings will be linked to our Phonics phase and will go home at the end of each week. We also encourage children to practise the Year 1 spellings. • We have high standards of presentation; children should be writing on the line and forming their letters correctly. We will start handwriting this half term as a foundation for joining after Christmas. • Our text for this half term will be ‘Lost in the Toy Museum’ and we try to link most of our writing to this theme to give children a purpose for writing. • Guided reading sessions will take place daily for children to practise key reading skills. Every child will read once a week with an adult.
