He studied engineering and law at the University of Edinburg • Stevenson's first published a book when he was only sixteen • In his works he critizes the narromindedness of middle-class • His travels gave him inspiration and material for works • He considered art superior to life

Health • He had a very bad health and had to stay in warmer climate • He might have had tuberculosis or bronchiectasis • In 1894 he collapsed and died of a cerebral haemorrage
Treasure Island • His first adventure novel • Originally it was serialized in magazine called Young Folks • The book was publised in 1883 • It tells a story of pirates and buried gold • It is considered as a Bildungsroman (novel of education)
