OUR MISSION • VLAC is a non-profit organization founded by a group of writers and artists in 2000. • VLAC’s mission: preserving and promoting Vietnamese culture in the greater Washington DC area through education, organization and participation in cultural events and community activities.
Activities • Encouraging and nurturing future writers with children and youth writing contests, • Publishing new and old Vietnamese literary works, • Organizing and participating in cultural events and community activities as Music class (guitar, violin); Traditional Dance group; Vietnamese class and After school programs
Activities (cont’d) Tu Sach Tieng Que Huong (Voices of my homeland bookcase) has published about 54 books from well known authors. These books are available for the public to purchase and some are complementary to members. Book launching party are held regularly for current writers are well attended by the community.
Activities (cont’d) • Long stories, short stories, poems, songs and essays will be published on the Ky Nguyen Moi (New Era) Magazine, Tu Sach Tieng Que Huong (Voices of my homeland bookcase) and www.vnlac.org. • They will be our means of communication with literary and arts loves. They will also serve as documentation and reference for the next generation • VLAC’s members and non-members have attended at Community Center about 150 – 250 people for introducing new books and discussing with the authors.
Vietnamese Cooking Classes Lớp Làm Trái Cây bằng Đậu Xanh. Oct 17, 2010: Introduce the book “Nhung Canh Hoa Dai Mau Vang” by Hong Thuy, a member of the Vietnamese Literary & Artistic Club – in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area at Jewish Community Center-Annandale, VA. Introduce the books of Phan Thị Ngôn Ngữ & Lê Thị Nhị at Jewish Community Center, 8900 Little River Turnpike, Fairfax, VA 22031 on July 10, 2011 September 11: Support the concert of “Ode to Freedom” at NOVA College – Alexandria Campus.
Accomplishments Besides hosting classes and events such as TET (Vietnamese New Year) celebrations with performances by children, Vietnamese Cultural Center also dedicated itself to helping those in need, especially serving the less fortunate in their surrounding communities. Vietnamese Cultural Center volunteers meet monthly to provide and serve food to the people at the homeless shelter at Bailey Crossroad’s in Falls Church, Virginia. They also conduct regular visits to local senior center.
Shelter Meals Caterer (Saturdays, Sundays and holidays) Volunteer groups of up to 10 are needed to prepare and serve meals to the 60 - 100 residents of Bailey’s Crossroads Community Shelter. VOLUNTEERS MUST SUPPLY ALL FOOD INGREDIENTS FOR THE MEAL. Vietnamese Cultural Center has been a supporter of the shelter and continues to actively support the shelter through donations of food, clothing and funds.

Since Tết (Lunar New Year) is a culturally important holiday, we give CHILDREN Tết gifts. We also distribute lì xì or so called lucky money and treat them with Traditional Vietnamese foods

Nha Viet Nam (Vietnamese Cultural Center) acts as a home for the local Vietnamese-American to meet and learn Vietnamese, cooking, music, feng shui, dancing and arts. It is currently located at 308 Hillwood Avenue, L-1, Falls Church VA 22046 Vietnamese Cultural Center intends to offer more classes and events at the Vietnamese Cultural Center to serve the growing need of the community but are unable to due to the current location’s limited facility. Vietnamese Cultural Center is actively conducting fundraising events and seeking funding support from different sources.
Vietnamese Cultural Center is supported by parent fund-raising as well as by donations from alumni and other friends. We are a tax deductible 501(3)C organization and we participate in the United Way Combined Federal Campaign.
