  1. z L y x Example 11.5 : Bowling Ball Estimate the magnitude of the angular momentum of a bowling ball spinning at 10 rev/s, as shown in Figure 11.13.

  2. y m2 O x m2g m1 m1g Example 11.6 : Rotating Rod A rigid rod of mass M and length is pivoted without friction at its center. Two particles of masses m1 and m2 are connected to its ends. The combination rotates in a vertical plane with an angular speed  . (a) Find an expression for the magnitude of the angular momentum of the system. (b) Find an expression for the magnitude of the angular acceleration of the system when the rod makes an angle  with the horizontal.

  3. v m1 R v m2 Example 11.7 : Two Connected Masses A sphere of mass m1 and a block of mass m2 are connected by a light cord that passes over a pully, as shown in Figure 11.15. The radius of the pulley is R, and the moment of inertia about its axle is I. The block slides on a frictionless, horizontal surface. Find an expression for the linear acceleration of the two objects, using the concepts of angular momentum and torque.
