The Beginning … • It was 1778 when the first discharge from the military was encountered because of broken rules involving DADT. • -Broadly defined as sodomy. • -The Military removed each soldier involved.
Hidden Homosexuality… • In 1993 President Bill Clinton approved of a policy that allowed homosexuals in the military. • Meaning they could serve but they had to keep their homosexuality hidden.
As time progressed many American’s grew to be “okay” with gays being in the military. • On May 27th, 2009 website usnews.com stated that “A huge majority of Americans—69 percent—now support gays being able to serve in the U.S. military.” .
-With most American’s accepting gays in the military, the percentage is still on the rise. • Do you feel that DADT should be judged based on their conduct or their sexual orientation?
Where does the DADT policy stand today? • -Since Obama’s election he has made several promises to end the ban on homosexuals serving openly in the military.
Double attempts were made by Obama to end this policy. • January 2009 • October 2009 • Till this day, the policy is still in effect.
