  2. Forging • Forging is one of the oldest metalworking processes known to man. It was originally done by a smith and an anvil, but today this method is too slow and has a higher margin for error due to human interaction. • Forging today is done either with presses or with hammers powered by compressed air, electricity, hydraulics, or steam. • Forged parts can now range in weight from less than a kilogram to 170 metric tons • Forging can be broken down into two main types; cold and hot forging

  3. Hot Forging • Hot forging is defined as working a metal above its recrystallization temperature.

  4. Cold Forging • Cold forging is defined as working a metal below its recrystallization temperature, but usually around room temperature.

  5. Stamping • A metalwork process in which sheet metal stripes are punched using a press tool. • The press tool is loaded on to a ‘machine press’ or ‘stamping press’ • The sheet metal then has the shape of the press tool cut out of it.

  6. Stamping Process • The metal is fed through the press machine and the press tool cuts out a piece of the metal the shape of the press tool head.
