Schedule – Day 2 • COOL FACT • The Red-throated Diver or Loon is the smallest and most slender of the loons. The Red-throated Diver, unlike other loons, does not need to patter on the water's surface on a long takeoff, but rather can take flight directly from land if necessary. • Unlike other loons, the Red-throated Diver does not carry its young on its back. • Whereas only males of other loon species vocalize, both male and female Red-throated Loons make calls, often together. OKAY FOR NOW Chapter 2 1. His dad had inferred that they didn’t expect Doug to be any good or he would have started right away. 2. She didn’t like him there, probably thinking he was a thug. The banter between them on page 34 is funny. He was probably ashamed because thought he sounded like Lucas, but his actions (spreading out) would refute this. 3. Doug learned from his dad and brothers to be critical of others. He just did it in his mind and not out loud like they did. 4. He started his job at Spicer Deli. 5. Mrs. Windermere 6. Her appearance and cursing. He’d heard that for sure! He was used to difficult people so he stood his ground and responded to her courageously. 7. First time--he had gotten wet in the sprinkler. Lil laughed at him. Second time- -His brother and criminal friends were outside the deli. He moved into the shadows under a tree and watched without moving. A crow pooped on his head. Lil saw him and teased him. 8. Evelyn Mason gave him donuts and milk. Mr. Loeffler asked him to help them in their house. Mrs. Daugherty and her 5 kids talked to him. Making Connections Ch 2: Answers
