Activity 1.1 Chemical MetrologyU.S. Coordination • Activity 1.1.1: Chemical Metrology Workshops and comparisons, training and publication of chemical comparison results and other chemical metrology activities • Activity 1.1.2: Pilot studies with training and comparisons in selected areas of chemical metrology having impact on trade, health and environmental issues. • Training: At least 2 Pilot studies and comparisons activities per year with an average of 26 participations per activity. • Travel: Workshops and Seminar lecturers an average of 4 per activity • Documents: Publication of workshop and seminar results, chemical comparisons results and other chemical metrology activities results. • Equipment: Comparisons will be carried out in selected areas of chemical metrology that have the greater impact on trade, health and environmental issues. It includes reference materials and measurement artifacts. • Others: Cost for copying results, shipping cost of reference materials and measurement artifacts, and custom fees.

Activity 1.1 Chemical MetrologyU.S. Coordination • Workshop:Conceptualize a practical system for the dissemination of traceable chemical measurements on country and/or regional level • Ecuador 7-8 May 2007 • SIM Participants: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Colombia, Dominica, Grenada, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Paraguay, Panamá, Peru, Uruguay, USA • Chemical Metrology WG Symposium at GA: • participating countries asked to present a Poster on activities.

Activity 1.2 Physical MetrologyUruguay Coordination • Activity 1.2.1: Training and comparisons in Physical Metrology Areas (Time & Frequency Metrology, Flow Metrology, Electricity and Magnetism Metrology, Mass and related quantities, Temperature Metrology, Ionizing Radiation, Dimensional Metrology, Photometry and Radiometry Metrology, Acoustics and Vibration Metrology. Meetings, Training, and comparison programs for the 9 metrology technical areas • Training: At least 2 seminars in the area of physical metrology will be carried out. About 30 participants, at least one from each SIM country will attend the seminars. • Training: Workshops on Comparison exercises in physical metrology will be performed with participation of at least 30 SIM representatives. This can include comparison exercises in the areas of temperature, pressure, mass, among others. • Travel: Seminar and Workshop lecturers and instructors travel 2 per seminar and for the workshops. • Documents: SIM publications related to physical metrology activities, results including physical comparison results. • Equipment: Comparisons will be carried out in selected areas of physical metrology that have the greater impact on trade, health and environmental issues. It includes reference materials and measurement artifacts. • Others: Cost for copying results, shipping cost of reference materials and measurement artifacts, and custom fees

Activity 1.4 Legal MetrologyMexico Coordinating • Assistance and training in basic legal metrology: Seminars, Workshops and Courses in strategic areas for commerce, environment protection and health. • Training: Two seminars on Legal Metrology will be held supporting the participation of at least 24 experts from the 4 SIM sub regions. • Travel: Seminar lecturers travel 2 per seminar. • Documents: SIM publications related to legal metrology activities. • Equipment: Comparisons will be carried out in selected areas of legal metrology that have the greater impact on trade, health and environmental issues. It includes reference materials and measurement artifacts. • Others: Cost for copying results, shipping cost of reference materials and measurement artifacts, and custom fees.

Activity 1.4 Legal MetrologyMexico Coordinating • PTB Plans a training course on prepackaged products: October (Honduras,  SIM LMWG Chair proposed joining efforts.) • Workshop to establish SIM-Guidelines on non-automatic weighting instruments: November (Costa Rica LACOMET) (also supports Activity 1.2) • It is expected that this document will help to harmonize the calibration procedures for weighting instruments in the Americas. • Sphygnomanometers and elastic element manometers: December (Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards(TBC)) • Course in Legal Metrolgy Jan/Feb 2008 (TBC)

Activity 2.1 Annual Regional Awareness Seminar (GA) Mexico Coordinating • Develop regional awareness of the economic impact of metrology and its role as part of infrastructure development and capacity building in the Americas • Participation of representatives of 34 member states in the workshop

Activity 2.2 Sub-Regional Awareness Seminars Mexico Coordinating • Up to three Sub regional workshops and seminars (CAMET; CARIMET; SURAMET; ANDIMET) to develop awareness of the economic impact of metrology and its role as part of infrastructure development and capacity building in the Americas • Training: Participation of sub-regional representatives in the workshops focusing on Economic Impact, Healthcare and Trade. • Travel: Workshop lecturers travel • Documents: SIM publications and materials related to metrology activities. • Others: Cost for copying results, shipping cost of reference materials and measurement artifacts, and custom fees. Coordination of human resources training and courses in the Region. • Activity 2.3.1 Publication of the SIM magazine (previously coordinated by Uruguay)

Activity 2.2 Sub-Regional Awareness Seminars Mexico Coordinating • Workshop on the steps to earn recognized measurement capabilities: November (Costa Rica LACOMET) • Meeting to discuss commentaries and agreements on the final version in Spanish of the VIM-2007: Jan/Feb 2008 (TBC) (Also supports Activity 2.3)

Activity 2.3 Communications and Outreach Uruguay Coordinating • Website, INFOSIM, Outreach-Publicity and Promotion • Travel: Support for SIM representatives from developing countries to attend international meetings such as at the International Bureau of Weights and Measures (BIPM) and for participation in Coordinator’s Meetings and technical committee meetings • Others: Maintain website, produce outreach and promotion material.
