  1. Writing Systems Pt 2 For each situation, write two equations that fit the situation.

  2. 1. The perimeter of a rectangle is 76. The width is two feet longer than the length.

  3. 2. Damien bought 46 pounds of apples and grapes for $45.76. If apples are $1.76 a pound and grapes are $2.15 a pound, write two equations given the situation.

  4. 3. The perimeter of a rectangular wooden deck is 90 feet. The deck’s length, l, is 5 feet less than 4 times its width, w. Which system of linear equations can be used to determine the dimensions, in feet, of the wooden deck? F2l + 2w = 90 H 2l + 2w = 90 l= 5 – 4w l= 4 – 5w G 2l + 2w = 90 J 2l + 2w = 90 l= 5w – 4l= 4w – 5

  5. 4. The Frosty Ice-Cream Shop sells sundaes for $2 and banana splits for $3. On a hot summer day, the shop sold 8 more sundaes than banana splits and made $156. Which system of equations could be used to find the number of sundaes, s, and banana splits, b, that the shop sold that day? A 2s + 3b = 156C2s + 3b = 8 s= b+ 8s= b+ 156 B2b + 3s = 156 D 2s + 3b = 156 s+ b= 8b− s= 8

  6. 5. Alexis has a jar of nickels and dimes that is worth $25.95. There were a total of 412 coins in the jar. Write to equations to go along with the situation.

  7. 6. Mark bought 5 snickers and 3 suckers for a total of $7.09. Chyian bought 8 snickers and 1 sucker for a total of $10.55. Write two equations to go along with the situation.

  8. 7. The perimeter of a rectangular volleyball court is 180 feet. The court’s width, w, is half its length, l. Which system of linear equations could be used to determine the dimensions, in feet, of the volleyball court? Al+ w= 180B 2l + 2w = 180 w= lw= .5l C l+ w= 180 D 2l + 2w = 180 l= wl= .5w

  9. 8. Juli has a jar full of quarters and pennies. There are a total of 670 coins in the jar and it adds up to $47.50. Write two equations to go along with the situation.

  10. 9. A school principal ordered 100 pizzas for a total of $1255. Cheese pizzas cost $11.50 each, and pepperoni pizzas cost $13.00 each. Which of the following systems of linear equations can be used to determine c, the number of cheese pizzas the principal ordered, and p, the number of pepperoni pizzas the principal ordered? A c+ p= 100 C c+ p= 100 13c + 11.50p = 1255 11.50c + 13p = 1255 Bc− p= 100 D c− p= 100 13c + 11.50p = 1255 11.50c + 13p = 1255

  11. 10. Time Warner charges no installation fee and $65 a month. Dish Network charges and installation fee of $50 and then $60 a month. Write two equations for the situation.

  12. 11. Chase and Sara went to the candy store. Chase bought 5 pieces of fudge and 3 pieces of bubble gum for a total of $5.70. Sara bought 2 pieces of fudge and 10 pieces of bubble gum for a total of $3.60. Which system of equations could be used to determine the cost of 1 piece of fudge, f, and 1 piece of bubble gum, g? F5f + 3g = 3.60 H f+ g= 22 2f + 10g = 5.707 f+ 13g = 9.30 G 5f + 2g = 5.70 J5f + 3g = 5.70 3f + 10g = 3.60 2f + 10g = 3.60

  13. 12. Two local singers charge different prices in order to perform. Donovan charges an appearance fee of $100 and then $60 an hour to sing at a party. Chazz does not charge an appearance fee but charges $75 an hour. Write two equations to go along with the situation.
