  2. Every person, family, and organization has a history….

  3. The purpose of this project is to introduce you to the work that we do as archivists.Archivists take care of the history of people, families, and organizations, so that it is saved and can be studied by anyone who is interested.

  4. Who would be interested in the historyof a person, family, or organization??? • Writers • Historians • Journalists • Filmmakers • Artists • Family members • Others?

  5. We want you to become archivists for the duration of this project.

  6. You will: learn about the history of your family or a community organization

  7. find materials that tell stories about that history

  8. and understand how to save that history.

  9. You will go to Yale and tour an archive to see where we work.

  10. You will conduct an oral history interview to learn about someone’s individual history.

  11. You will create an exhibit of your family or organizational documents that will be displayed in your school and in the Yale Library.

  12. So what will you have to do? • Start thinking now about what family, club, or organization you might want to find out about. • When we return in March, listen to some presentations and participate in group activities in class. • Go to the Yale library for a tour. • Complete assignments from your teacher. • Do an oral history interview with someone. • Gather items for an exhibit and write captions to describe them.
