Western Cape • Strengths • Diverse economy with strong services base • Natural asset base (Cape Floral Kingdom, Blue flag beaches, mountains, Table Mountain) and created assets such as CTICC provide competitive base for lifestyle economy • Agriculture globally competitive sector, largest export sector and driver of non-metro economies. Also a large employer • Growing design economy, recognised globally with WDC. Strengths in built environment design, animation, advertising and ICT • Knowledge intensive economy with best schools in SA, 5 universities, research institutions and online data management capabilities • Risks • 29.3% (expanded definition) of the working population are unemployed • Potentially we face more severe impacts from climate change. A mean global temperature rise of 2 degrees could translate to close to 5 degrees in parts of the Western Cape. • This will impact water and agriculture directly • Carbon pricing will impact the WC dramatically. For example a ZAR100 carbon tax will add R0.22 to the cost of a kg of fruit from Overberg. The same tax would add ZAR0.09 to a kg of fruit from Chile Go to Insert > Header & Footer > Enter presentation name into footer field
