2011 Quality Management System Trainings • QMS training • Developed in partnership with AAVLD Accreditation Committee • Modified from August 2010 initial delivery • Interactive learning environment • AAVLD, ISO 17025/ OIE standard • Document control, records, internal auditing, management review, corrective actions, root cause analysis • Wet lab – application of skills • Development of QMS distance learning modules • Initialmodule developed • National andinternationalfeedback • Collaborative training with PPQ’s National Plant Disease Network– April 2011 • 26 participants • Collaborative training with International Services– August 2011 • 10 participants from NAHLN laboratories • 16 expected participants from 5 foreign countries (Kazakhstan, Ukraine, Russia, Kenya, and Tanzania) July 2011
Diagnostic DevelopmentNVSL/FADDL and NAHLN • Completed Negative Cohorts for FMD, ASF, Rinderpest– April 2011 • 11 NAHLN labs participated • ~ 6000 FMD, 1100 ASF and 1350 RP samples tested • Assay validation, result sharing and communication protocols • Current projects: • Collaboration between with NVSL, DHS, FAZD, NAHLN labs: • RT-PCR for FMD in milk • Optimization of RNA extraction • Negative cohort • FMD Penside test • Negative cohort • Collaboration between NVSL, DHS and NAHLN labs: • Deployment of FMD Serology to NAHLN labs • Negative cohort • Negative cohorts for Lumpy Skin Disease and Contagious Bovine Pleuopneumonia July 2011
Secure Communication and Reporting SystemLaboratory Capacity Estimation Program • Collaboration between NAHLN/FAZD/AAVLD • Software tool for evaluating/monitoring NAHLN capacity • Provide daily testing and surge capacities for individual and overall NAHLN diagnostic testing • Prioritize resources • Manage a large number of diagnostic tests simultaneously • Currently in pilot phase in 11 NAHLN labs • Upcoming NAHLN-wide release mid-August 2011 • Applicability for other networks July 2011

NAHLN Budget FY10 NIFA • $4.4M/year through Food and Ag Defense Initiative • Funding supports NAHLN lab infrastructure • 12 Core and 16 Member labs • Personnel – technical, QA, and IT as well as equipment APHIS • $6.5 M/year through AHMS and Vet Diagnostics • Funding supports laboratory review process, personnel, IT infrastructure, training, surveillance, reference materials, proficiency testing, maintenance of equipment, and infrastructure support of QMS and IT systems in 12 Member labs July2011
