  2. It’s Fun… Team members get a team tee shirt for ETMS.

  3. NC BATTLE OF THE BOOKS Purpose • To encourage middle school students to read GOOD books. • To compete in a game format against other schools in the county

  4. To join you commit to: It’s hard work and a chance to make our school SHINE… • Reading most of the 27 books on the BoB list and preparing questions. • Taking the AR test and trying to make at least an 80%. • Attending each meeting prepared to discuss the books you have read. • Being on your BEST behavior. • Learning the books and authors.

  5. COMMITMENT Students need to commit to reading the books on the list and becoming an EXPERT on some of them so you can help your team answer the questions on the day of the county competition.

  6. AR Tests ETMS has the AR test for all Battle of the Books

  7. Do You… • Love to read challenging and interesting books? • Love to COMPETE and help your team? • Love to make ETMS SHINE?

  8. If so… Then Battle of the Books is for you!

  9. BUT… If you are not interested in reading the books and competing in Battle of the Books competition, please do not sign up!

  10. Sample Questions: In which book: Q-Does a deaf boy work as a cabin boy on a ship? A-Castaways of the Flying Dutchmen by Brian Jacques ***You have 20 seconds to answer the question with the title of the book and the author!*** ***If the other team can’t answer we get 10 seconds to try to answer.***

  11. Sample Question: In which book: Q-Was a 6th grade teacher paralyzed from the waist down? A-The View from Saturday by E. L. Konigsburg

  12. Ms. Dowless will: • Plan meetings about once a week at 2:00 or 2:20. • Check AR records often to see how team members are doing. • Remove team members who are not reading the books.

  13. If you: • Love to read challenging and interesting books? • Love to COMPETE and help your team? Then Battle of the Books could be for you!!

  14. We will meet next week • Ask your parents and return the signed form • You may check out a Battle of the Books book when the form is returned with a your signature!
