Professional Learning Communities • What are PLCs? • What are they not? Turn and talk, report out
Activity: PLC ProcessPre-Test • Place PLC process in order of procedure (new teachers pair with experienced PLC teachers) • When done walk around tables and see if the other groups agree
Split Groups • Experienced PLC teachers meet with teams • Review process, results, prepare to present informally • New to PLCs • Meet with Jan and Robin to learn about the PLCs and the process
What is a SMART Goal? • Strategic and Specific - Do you know exactly what you want to accomplish with all the details? • Measurable - Are you able to assess your progress? • Attainable/Achievable - Is your goal within your reach given your current situation? • Results Oriented- Is the goal addressing an urgent need? • Timebound - What is the deadline for completing your goal?
SMART Goal Example: The percentage of 8th grade students scoring above 80% on our unit exam will increase from 34% (pretest) to 90% by the end of the October as measured by our common Art I, Lesson I assessment.
Practice Writing • Pair up with someone and write a practice SMART Goal • Share example with group
