How to comment on a slid? You should put in your mind that diagnosis is not the only thing that being requested, unlessthe examiners mention spot diagnosis, so don’t be frustrated if you can’t reach the proper diagnosis. It is only a guide to talk about specific subject and to assess your knowledge wise and thinking.
How to comment on a slid? Take a look at the photograph, keep silent for 2-3 seconds while searching for the most striking feature, mention it (you can skip this step if you can’t identify this feature), start to comment on the slid systematically (orbit, eyelids, position of the eye, conjunctiva, discharge, cornea, anterior chamber, iris, pupil and lens).
How to comment on a slid? If you have a fundus photograph, your comment should cover 4 items: 1- Optic nerve head. 2- Macular area. 3- Retinal vasculature. 4- Retinal background. N.B. If you can see the retinal details, this means that the vitreous is clear.
How to comment on a slid? Usually, a blank slid caries a lot of differential diagnosis (the more D.D. you thinking about, the more information you have). So, try to speak with the examiner about the possibilities and how to exclude one by one using the age of the patient, onset, duration, unilateral or bilateral, symptoms and associated signs.
Finally, Don’t forget to mention Right or left.
