HIGHLIGHTS • Grades K – 4 Primary Focus: • Early Literacy Skills to include comprehension and Pre-Reads • Sight Words, Phonics, Word families, Phonemic Awareness • Number and Letter Recognition • Letter Sounds • Writing Process – Journals and Free Writes • Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Patterns
HIGHLIGHTS • Intermediate School • Focus: Reading, Writing and Math Skills • Utilized the Nystrom Map Program to enhance map skills • Positive: Assistance of counselors from Home Preservation Services
HIGHLIGHTS • Middle School • Cortez Math Lab • Writing Skills • Reading Plus • Individualized instruction that crossed content to all subject areas focusing on reading comprehension, study skills and Interactive Reading and Notetaking
HIGHLIGHTS • High School • English 9 Class • NOVA Net -- Credit Recovery (Needs Based) Algebra, Geometry, English • ESY for Special Needs Students
HIGHLIGHTS • New This Year: • ESL Class – All levels • Focus: Alphabet, Phonics, U.S. Cultural Awareness, Verbs, Adjectives, Nouns • Benefits: • Helped to bridge the gap during the summer months until school begins again • Acclimate students to school routines and rules
POSITIVES • Smaller class sizes based on needs • Teacher / Student Accountability Star Pre-Test and Post-Test • Additional RtI strategies implemented • Use of Technology: Computer Labs and Document Cameras • Meaningful Hands-On Activities that engaged the students to create a fun learning environment • LONG TERM GOAL: Drop-Out Prevention
A SUCCESSFUL YEAR!! • Cohesion and communication between the teachers and administrators, in addition to the variety of engaging and purposeful student activities made the 2010 Summer School organized and a great success!!
