Assignment 3: Post-Implementation Assessment Judy Blostein, Jennifer Hocko, and Bob Lim Waltham Interactive Design April 4st, 2001
What Does This Assessment Include? • Our project team’s prototype rationale (Jen). • Guided walkthrough of the project team’s paper prototype (All, led by Bob). • Optional: A critique of our team’s project strategy and tactics - strengths and weaknesses (Judy).
Prototype Rationale Jennifer Hocko, Core Team Member
Prototype Rationale • Objective: To improve Concord’s information architecture by addressing major navigational problems. • Focus: • Improve groupings and content organization. • Create consistent categories/labels. • Incorporate navigational aids. • Add relevant, previously omitted content.
Prototype Rationale • Home Page: • Draw upon visitor’s knowledge of conventional navigation controls. • Establish consistency in navigational structure to be carried throughout entire site. • Improve accessibility of search and other functions. • Alleviate some technical (feedback) issues that negatively affected the user experience.
Prototype Rationale • Site Map: • Provide a comprehensive view of site structure, at one glance. • Attempt to organize/group information in ways meaningful to users. • Really requires user/task analysis to discover and align with users’ mental models.
Prototype Rationale • Internal Pages: • Show visitor’s relative location in the site at all times. • Where appropriate, provide visitors with access to related (“see also”) information. • Rely on consistent navigational structure throughout all internal pages (as driven by home page).
Prototype Walkthrough Bob Lim, Core Team Member (with Judy Blostein and Jen Hocko)
Project Management & PEAT Judy Blostein, Project Team Leader
Project Management & PEAT • WBS process: • Strengths: • Understanding tasks and responsibilities. • Re-use of prior project components cut project time considerably. • Know each others strengths and weaknesses. • Weaknesses: • Posting information to the Blackboard repository. • Deciding on common task categories for time tracking (at the beginning of the project).
Project Management & PEAT • Total project hours:
Project Management & PEAT • Total project cost: • Initial estimate was 81 hours at $100 per person, for a total cost of $8,100. • Actual time on task for all team members was 43.5 hours, for a total cost of $4,350. • We over-estimated!
Project Management & PEAT • Activities that took longer: • Creating the template for the paper prototype. • Reviewing and revising the prototype template. • Activities that took less time: • Constructing the individual pages from the prototype template. • Assigning tasks/responsibilities. • Completing the WBS and the schedule.
Project Management & PEAT • Relevant PEAT question: • “Historical data from past projects is/was used in developing the project plan.” • Reasons: • We re-used information from our prior WBS and report. • In doing so, we significantly reduced the time and effort needed to complete this project.
The End • Questions?
