Why run the counters? • Take advantage of an aggressive defense. • Misdirection is a big part of the DBL Wing. • We like big plays.
What sets up the counters? • The ability and patience to run power football. • Ball handling and carrying out fakes (deception). • Timing, timing, timing.
What are the counters? • Counters with the wings. • Counters with the fullback. • Counters with the tight ends. • Counters with the quarterback. • Add power with leads.
47-C 56-C 47XX-C 56XX-C Wingback Counters
Blocking Rules • Playside is Gap-On-Area. • Point of attack will always block down. • “C” tells our backside Guard & Tackle to pull and Guard will kick out and Tackle will turn up through the hole. • First # will tell the FB where to go and second # will tell everyone where the ball is going. • Center will block backside and if the Defense is in T-N-T look he will “Dog” call. • If we call “lead” the backside TE will shoeshine.
Counters With Power We will lead our FB on our wingback counters some to give us more power with the misdirection.
7-C 6-C Fullback Counters
Counters for TE’s and QB’s! We will run the TE special if our TE can run. I will have a QB who can run so we need to work on a counter for him.
