  1. Animal Farm Compared to Real Life Chapter 33

  2. Lenin’s Warning about Stalin Napoleon becomes a brutal leader

  3. Trotsky vs. Stalin Snowball was banished from the farm by Napoleon. In real life Trotsky was hunted down and murdered by Stalin’s spies.

  4. Government made all decisions Throughout the movie, the pigs were running Animal Farm.

  5. Quick Industrialization was focus Windmill was an effort to make life easier for the animals. Unfortunately, other areas of development were neglected (just as in the USSR)

  6. Collective Communes Animals working together for the farm. Eventually, they were forced into compliance. (death threats, scare tactics, etc.) In real life, this came to resemble life under the czar. In some cases people destroyed their crop instead of turning it over to the government—like the Chickens destroying their eggs.

  7. Kulaks—prosperous peasants Not really reflected in the movie Need to know that these people were often the victims of Stalin’s brutality. Sent to labor camps, prison, or death—sort of like Boxer

  8. Supreme Soviet—council of officials The pigs were representative of these officials. They were in charge and became “more equal than others.”

  9. Politboro—the leaders within the Supreme Soviet Reflected in Napoleon and Squealer Ran all aspects of life

  10. Loudspeakers used to broadcast TV in the barn Films that were shown Squealer making his announcements

  11. Propaganda used to convince people Squealer—throughout the movie he was twisting the truth and making Napoleon look good.

  12. Great Purge—mass killing of all dissidents (anyone who disagreed) The hanging of the chickens when they refused to give up their eggs.

  13. Dishonorable Agreement Trade with the other farmers. They were making deals that ended up hurting the farm.
