Georgia O’Keefe Georgia O’Keefe was an American abstract artist who lived from 1887-1986. She studied at the Chicago Art institute.
She married the famous photographer, Alfred Stieglitz, who helped make her famous. O'Keeffe has been a major figure in American art since the 1920s. She is chiefly known for paintings in which she synthesized abstraction and representation in paintings of flowers, rocks, shells, animal bones and landscapes.
Her paintings present crisply contoured forms that have subtle tonal transitions of varying colors. She often transformed her subject matter into powerful abstract images. Her best known pictures are large, close ups of flowers. Sometimes only the center of the flower show in the frame.
The Project • First practice the 6 techniques (dry, wet on wet, lifting, splatter, salt, and plastic wrap). • Create a large watercolor in the style of Georgia O’Keefe using 5 of the 6 techniques we practiced. • Remember to crop the flower for interest. • Make sure to show value in your flower • Turn the practice and the final flower in for a grade.
