  2. WHY WALK PRECINCTS? • DATA SUPPORTS IT • 10-15% TURN OUT DIRECTLY RELATED TO DOOR TO DOOR • TURN OUT FROM OTHER EFFORTS: • PHONE BANKS 4.1% (after 5 phone calls!) • WAVING STREET SIGNS ELECTION DAY 3.2% • DOOR HANGERS 1.2% • DIRECT MAIL 0.6% • E-MAIL NEGLIGIBLE • ROBOCALLS 0%

  3. WHY WALK PRECINCTS? Danny Clancy lost for Dallas County District Attorney in 2010 by 5,119 votes = 8 per precinct Linda Harper Brown, won for State Rep, District 105 in 2008 by 20 votes by walking in Valley Ranch

  4. WHY NOT WALK? • 105 degrees in Texas? • Feet hurt • I was taught not to talk politics or religion with strangers • I am not “good” with people

  5. Are we in the Majority or the Minoritywith our Party Principles in this Precinct? • Survey Identification: • 74% of Americans on issue specific surveys describe conservative principles • Greater than 54% of Americans call themselves Conservatives; only 15% Liberals • Harris County has similar Demographics and they won in 2010

  6. TRAINING STRUCTUREFOR BOTH CANVASS AND GOTV WALKS • TIPS • TOOLS • TECHNIQUES

  7. 2 WALK TYPES 1. CANVASS WALK • Who is behind the front door? 1. Conservative vs. Liberal; Party affiliation • GOTV (GET OUT THE VOTE) WALK a. The art of getting like-minded voters to VOTE!

  8. Where do I get a Walk List? • DCRP has its own voter data base • Dallasgop.me • Enter in your walk data or send it to HQ! • Or Voter Vault

  9. Voter Vault • Started by Karl Rove in Texas • Then when George W. Bush and Rove went to Washington, they expanded it nationally. It is managed by state Republican Parties. • Democrats do not have this type of system

  10. TOOLS • VOTER VAULT • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvKWj-A3-c4 • Contact Nick Carona at ncarona@texasgop.org or RPT VV at 512-879-4049 or RPT General # 512-477-9821 or DCRP HQs at 214-369-9555 • Your Voter Vault Access Request Form must be signed by your SREC or GOP County Chair and faxed to Voter Vault. Be sure to list specific Precincts you are requesting & why (e.g. Precinct Chair, Volunteer, Campaign, etc.

  11. Voter Vault Party Affiliation • 1 - Strong Republican – Votes in lots of Republican Primaries • 2 - Weak Republican – Votes in some Republican Primaries; could be just as strong as a “1” • 3 - Independent - Votes in some Republican & some Democrat Primaries • 4 - Weak Democrat - Votes in some Democrat Primaries • 5 - Strong Democrat - Votes in lots of Democrat Primaries • 6 - Undecided - Doesn’t vote in Primaries • 0 - Unidentified - Registered but never voted

  12. PV - Perfect Voter • PV is a score determined by a voter’s vote history and used to indicate propensity to vote. Your state Party selects four elections; the score reflects how many of those elections a voter has voted in. For example, if an individual voted in 2 of those 4 elections, the score will be PV 2. Perfect Voter scores can range from 0 (did not vote in any of the selected elections) to 4 (voted in all four selected elections). PV 5 designates newly registered voters.

  13. TIPS • Suggested times to walk: • Saturday from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM • Week nights 6:00 PM but not past dusk • Sunday afternoon • Pairs recommended (preferably not 2 men)

  14. TIPS • Wear Name Badge, or Precinct Chairs, when talking to like-minded voters, especially those who may want to get more involved, you may wish to provide a business card. • Knock or ring, then step back. • Do your best to persuade, but never argue. • Listen (while smiling), always say thank you. • DO YOUR BEST to collect contact info from like-minded and open-minded voters to build your team.

  15. TIPS • OBSERVE • AMERICAN FLAG? • YARD SIGNS? • PRO-LIFE or other PRO-REPUBLICAN BUMPER STICKERS? • YELLOW RIBBON? • VETERAN OR MILITARY SERVICE? • LISTEN for comments about specific CANDIDATES, PERSONALITIES, PARTY THEY STAND FOR, ISSUE- SPECIFIC CONCERNS

  16. “NO-NO” • Honor “No Trespassing” signs; do not cross • Ordinances pertaining to “No Soliciting” signs vary city to city. Even if we are not soliciting for money, it’s best to use caution and not cross. However, for example, if you see a yard sign “Vote Republican” you may get a warm reception. • DO NOT place any literature into, upon, supported by, attached to or hung from a mailbox WITHOUT PROPER POSTAGE. • Avoid walking on yards; stay on sidewalks. • It’s preferable not to walk alone. • Do not go into the house of a stranger. • Do not argue or spend time trying to “convert”.

  21. Canvass Walk ListDallasgop.me • Print “targeted and household” list

  22. GOTV WALKLIST • DALLASGOP.ME • PROFILE: • REPUBLICAN

  23. Ask for a Commitment to Vote • DCGOP will provide you with historical voter data of your precinct

  24. YARD SIGNS & BUMPER STICKERS • When delivering yard signs, include a note with your name & e-mail address (NOT your phone number) for others to request yard signs, bumper stickers, etc. This is a good way to gather e-mail addresses in your precinct. • Instruct them to e-mail you with their name, address & phone # if they want a yard sign or bumper sticker.

  25. WHY Vote for Republicans to the Bottom of the Ballot?

  26. In 2006, Dallas County-wide races: • There were 47 Republican candidates in contested races. • 16,136 MORE Democrats voted Straight Ticket than Republicans; • Republican voters have a greater tendency to vote for who they know near the top of the ballot and leave the rest of the races blank; • 38,000 Dallas County Republican voters DID NOT VOTE! • AS A RESULT, ALL 47 REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES LOST!!!

  27. However . . . If everyone who voted for Republican U.S. Senate candidate Kay Bailey Hutchison near the top of the ballot had voted for Republicans to the bottom of the ballot, ALL 47 REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES • WOULD HAVE WON!

  28. In 2010, Dallas County-wide: • There were 36 Republican candidates in contested races. • 20,317 MORE Democrats voted Straight Ticket than Republicans ; • Again, lots more Republican voters left down-ballot races blank; and • A lot more Democrats were newly registered voters . • ALL 36 REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES LOST again!!!

  29. This time, however, in 2010, even if everyone who voted for Republican State Attorney General candidate Greg Abbott near the top of the ballot had voted for Republicans to the bottom of the ballot, only some of our Republican candidates would have won – the County Judge (Wade Emmert!!!), the County Clerk, and 13 judges; but these would have lost – the District Attorney, the District Clerk, the County Treasurer & 18 judges.

  30. In 2010, although the percent of Dem. vs. Rep. voters was similar to 2006, the actual number of Straight Ticket Republican voters increased from 108,000 to 132,293!

  31. Sooo, What to do about this so we can TAKE BACK DALLAS COUNTY and our country?

  32. TAKING BACK DALLAS COUNTY and our country • If everyone here, including candidates, but NOT ONLY candidates, works to educate like-minded voters, that number can be greatly increased again. • Point out that by leaving any races blank, voters are casting a partial vote for the Democrat because Democrats have a greater tendency to vote “Straight Ticket”. • If voters say they “vote for the person, not the Party”, gently point out that even if a candidate has the best of intentions, once elected, there is often insurmountable pressure to “go along” with the “Establishment” and we’ve seen this over and over again.

  33. LEAVING RACES BLANK DOWN THE BALLOT WILL ENSURE DEMOCRAT MAJORITIES AT THE COUNTY, STATE AND FEDERAL LEVELS!!! • More reasons to vote GOP to the bottom of the ballot in Dallas County elections: • There is an ongoing FBI & IRS investigation of a Democrat County Commissioner; search warrants were served June 27, 2011 on the offices, homes &/or cars of the commissioner, his top aide, and his political consultant, seeking evidence of 1) theft or bribery, 2) tax evasion, 3) fraud and false statements, 4) illegal structuring of transactions, 5) money laundering, and 6) conspiracy. • A Democrat Justice of the Peace and six of his relatives were indicted in 2011 for voter fraud;

  34. In Jan. 2012, the Democrat-controlled Commissioners’ Court sought to appoint the founder of the New Black Panther Party (a group espousing racial discrimination and anti-Semitism) to the Dallas County Homeland Security Advisory Committee. • There is chaos and injustice when the District Attorney’s office and judicial positions are filled with personnel too often inexperienced, and sometimes corrupt. • YIKES! We MUST take back Dallas County!!!

  35. More reasons to vote for Republicans to the bottom of the ballot in Statewide elections: • In the State Legislature: • The majority Party is crucial in controlling important committees and winning debates and votes on legislation; • The state senate Nominations Committeevotes whether or not to confirm many of the governor’s interim agency or judicial appointments as such needs arise; • The Appropriations and Ways & Means Committees make crucial decisions on how tax payer money is spent; & more. • State school boards determine public school curriculum; • The state attorney general fights issues like redistricting, the Voter I.D. bill, and more, all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court if necessary; he or she fights U.N. mandates on who TX can or cannot prosecute; etc.; • The governor may make 1,000’s of interim appointments; and can sign, or veto bills presented to him or her; & more.

  36. More reasons to vote for Republican candidates, in particular the gubernatorial candidate: • The Party affiliation of Election Judges at Polling Places is determined, Precinct by Precinct, based on the number of votes cast for each Party’s candidate for governor in the last election. • A lot of voters DO NOT KNOW about the voter fraud indictments right here in Dallas County. To help reduce fraud at Polling Places, we NEED Republican presence at every Polling Place. Everyone, please work hard to build your own solid, reliable teams, and if you find trusted volunteers to work in other Precincts, refer them to DCRP HQs – 214-369-9555.

  37. More reasons to vote for Republicans to the bottom of the ballot at the Federal level: • The U.S. Judicial Committee decides which judicial nominees, including Supreme Court and appellate court nominees, ever get “out of committee” and onto the Senate floor for a vote; • Control of the U.S. Ways & Means (i.e. Budget) Committee is essential. • The Majority Party in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives send bills to the President to sign, or veto. Republican majorities are crucial! • Under Democrat control our country faces failed fiscal policies, failed energy policies, an assault on religious & other freedoms, growing threats from countries that want to destroy us, rampant corruption, and more.

  38. Having Republican majorities at all levels should help ensure: • Our values of rewarding good behavior and punishing bad; • Upholding the rule of law; • Limited government and self-reliance instead of dependency; • Protection of our religious and other freedoms; • Protection of our 2nd Amendment & private property rights; • Strong families; • The protection of innocent life; • Strict adherence to the U.S. Constitution; and more.

  39. Put in simple terms, if you explain the dire consequences of well-intentioned but disastrous voting habits of leaving down-ballot races blank, then more Republican voters will vote for Republicans to the bottom of the ballot, and more of our great Republican candidates at all levels will WIN! • Remember - • If you won't vote for a Republican you don't know, • you'll get a Democrat you don't want! • HELP US TAKE BACK OUR COUNTY AND OUR COUNTRY and spread this message to ALL of your like-minded friends and associates!
