Gold The current price of gold is $1364.67 Australian Dollars. GOLD, its very valuable and very beautiful. Gold has a lot of history in Australia. The number of Chinese people that came to Australia in the 1800's Rush is open to speculation. It is believed about7000 Chinese people worked in the Araluen gold fields in Southern NSW.
What was Chinese peoples lives life like • Most Chinese people did not want go to Australia but they had no choice because merchants paid the Chinese. They had travelled a long way to reach the diggings. Many had initially landed in Robe, in South Australia and then made the long trek on foot to the goldfields of Victoria or New South Wales.Unlike the majority of immigrants who came seeking their fortune on the goldfields, the Chinese were greeted with fear and suspicion from the European miners.
How many Chinese people where there • In 1861, there were more than 24,000 Chinese immigrants on the Victorian goldfields of Ararat, Ballarat, Beechworth, Bendigo, Castlemaine and Maryborough. There were over 11,000 Chinese on the New South Wales goldfields of Armidale, Bathurst, Binalong, Braidwood, Burrangong, Lambing Flat (Young), Carcoar, Lachlan, Mudgee, Tambaroora, Tamworth and Tumut.
Why did they come here • In and around what is now Guangdong province in southern China, where 90% of Chinese miners came from, civil war had disrupted farming practices and made life unsafe for many villagers. LumKhen Yang - later a successful merchant in Melbourne - describes the situation in Taishin.
What were their living conditions like? • Most migrants who joined the Australian gold rush left behind family and home. This was particularly difficult for the Chinese who came from a traditional culture that focused heavily on parents, family and the ancestral village. • The majority of Chinese men who came to NSW were not individual fortune hunters, but came as a family representative seeking an essential and supplementary income for his family and his wife who had been left at home to honour her primary role as support for her in-laws. Most Chinese people where racially abused which resulted in a massive grudge against White man.
How did they get there gold • They were different because they used different techniques like they would collect the mullock that the miners left behind and they would put it in a crusher and crush it down to a fine powder and put in mercury and the gold would sink to the bottom. After they collect the gold they reuse the mercury.
How did they effect or help Australia as a country. • The Chinese culture influenced Australia in terms of cuisine, technology, religion, customs and of course, products. But like so many other cultures, they have all contributed to a multicultural socity which is clearly apparent today. Keep in mind that the Chinese government also keeps close ties with the Australian and hence a lot of trade has been made and continued to do so. Also spices and tea
Why i chose the Chinese people • I chose the Chinese people because of their culture and technique and history and why they came here.
