Predict and observe sound levels Too Noisy Starter (free for iOS and Android) • Observe the effect of different sounds on the meter • Predict the level of sound in different locations • Experiment with the effect of distance on sound
Investigate and record Google Science Journal(free for iOS and Android – can be used without a Google account) • Sound sensor (microphone) • Light sensor Accelerometer • Barometer • Compass • Magnetometer
Predict, investigate and record Google Science Journal www.sciencebuddies.org • Make a list of five different places to measure sound level (very quiet, very noisy, and somewhere in between) • Predict the average decibel level and range you think each place will register on the sound meter • Practice taking decibel readings with the Science Journal app – open the app, add a new experiment (+)and open the sensor card. Click the Settings wheel on the first sensor and select only the Sound intensity (dB) sensor • Press the Record button. Wait for one minute, then press the record button again to stop recording. The app will automatically display minimum, maximum, and average values over the recording period
