18O/16O • Water mass tracer • Distinguish between: • Freshwater derived from ice melt • Freshwater derived from runoff • Brine injection influences salinity more strongly than it affects d18O • Analysis complete for 2004, 2009, 2012

Bering Strait Salinity – d18O mixing line y-intercept for 0 salinity (d18O ~-21) is similar to Yukon River Melted sea ice (spring) to left of regression line Brine influenced waters to right of regression line Runoff in Alaska Coastal Water Updated (2013) from Cooper et al. 2006, Arctic 59:129-141
Rusalca 2004 Freshwater intercept is more negative than in Bering Strait; consistent with Kolyma River and other East Siberian rivers
Rusalca 2009 and 2012 sample isotope analysis has been completed • Inconsistency of station numbering and naming convention is posing challenges, e.g. repeat stations, multiple casts at same station • It would help to have a unified, sharable bottle file tabulating physical parameters at the time Niskins were closed. • Interpretation of 2009 and 2012 data is in progress
