  2. The catechism of the Catholic Church lists five effects of confirmation: It roots us more deeply in the divine filiation [as children of God] which makes us cry, "Abba! Father!" It unites us more firmly to Christ. It increases the gifts of the Holy Spirit in us. It renders our bond with the church more perfect. It gives us a special strength of the Holy Spirit to spread and defend the faith by word and action as true witnesses of Christ, to confess the name of Christ boldly, and never to be ashamed of the cross.

  3. PARENTS • Parents support your journey towards ConfirmationSeptember 7 — Parent / Candidate Meeting • Throughout  — Parents pray for their young person  • October / November — Five weekly home sessions related to the Promises of Baptism • October 28— Copy of Baptism Certificate Due

SPONSORS • Sponsors help you along your Confirmation through prayers and faith sharing • October 28— Sponsor From Completed and Returned ** • Throughout  — Sponsors pray for their young person  • February / April — E-mails encouraging Spirit-filled chats • April 18  — Sponsors or their proxy president Confirmation candidate to Bishop.

  5. PRAYER • Prayer and worship make faith come alive. • Throughout - All gatherings include various styles of prayer • RETREAT OPTIONS:  • November 14- 16 — NCYC • Feb 1 — Parent/Youth Retreat • March 14 — Family Pilgrimage • March 28 — Spirit Day

  6. CLASSES • Study of Scriptures and the Catechism teaches you about what we believe in • September 22 — Faith Formation classes begin • December 7 — CORE classes gather • December / January — CORE classes with Friday, Saturday, Sunday and other options as determined by groups

  7. PARISH • Parish is our community where we celebrate the Mass together • Throughout — Attendance at Masses • November 10 — Rite of Enrollment • March 18 — Letter to the Bishop Due

SERVICE • Service gives you an introduction to the life of a disciple.  Our intention is not to have you doing stuff for the sake of doing stuff but to connect you in relationship with others who are offering service based on their faith or values. • October 28— Service Sheet Due ** • Throughout — Parish options> Appalachia Service Project   > Peer ministers > CLOW > Aides> Liturgical Ministers                  > Musicians • Throughout.   Other Acts of Service
