Database – collection of related data • Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) – software that uses related data stored in different tables • Table is made up of rows (records) and columns (fields) • E.g. 7 records 3 fields
Basic steps to create a database • Design the tables – field name, data type, field properties (read pages 4-6) • Create relationships between tables: 1-to-1; 1-to-many; or many-to-many. Enforce referential integrity. • Add records in Datasheet view or create FORM for data entry
Queries(pages 13-14) • retrieve records that match certain criteria • E.g. Use the online help for “Expressions that can be used in criteria” • Create calculated field:
FORMS • A form can created based on table(s) or a query for data entry/modification • Edit a form in its design view. • May need to view the field list to add fields to existing form • Useful Tools
REPORTS • A REPORT can created based on table(s) or a query for displaying information or printing • Edit a REPORT in its design view. • May need to view the field list to add fields to existing REPORT • Can add Grouping level(s) to a report. • Useful Tools Grouped by Team ID & Nickname
