THE GAMES AND RELIGION The Olympic Games were linked to the religious festivals of the cult of Zeus. To show the physical qualities of young people.
PARTICIPANTS. • All free male Greek citizens were entitled to participate in the ancient Olympic Games. • Married women were not allowed to participate in, or to watch, the ancient Olympic Games. • Unmarried women could attend the competition. • The priestess of Demeter was given a privileged position next to the Stadium altar.
ACTIVITIES AND LENGHT Running, long jump, shot put, javelin, boxing, pankration and equestrian events. Were initially a one-day event until 684 BC, when they were extended to three days. In the 5th century B.C., the Games were extended again to cover five days.

PIERRE DE COUBERTIN • He was born in 1863 in Paris, France. • He went to University and studied pedagogy . • He travelled to USA. • His idea was not recognised in France. • He died in Ginebra on the 2 of September in 1937.
