  2. Objectives (1) Describe how a grant may benefit your professional development and your department/institution. (2) Discuss some grant opportunities available for Student Affairs Professionals. (3) Demonstrate how to evaluate program objectives and outcomes. (4) Explore common challenges experienced by grant administrators and discuss how one might avoid or address them.

  3. Tell Us About Your Experiences • Where are you in the grant process? • What grants have you obtained? • Where might you be getting stuck?

  4. Potential Roadblocks • Potential collaborator drops out/moves in. • Low institutional support for an objective/intervention. • Poor participation/student response.

  5. Strategies to Prevent, Minimize, or Overcome Barriers

  6. How to Work With a Grant Manager Determine preferred communication and expectations. Document! Share successes and consult about concerns. Connect with other grantees.

  7. Program/Outcome Evaluation Determine a timeline at the beginning. Share with your stakeholders.

  8. Reporting Back Share findings with your institution and community • Present at conferences • Highlight in your tenure/review process • Publish your results/findings Important things to consider: • IRB Approval • Identify audience • Pair with a narrative

  9. Sustainability Sustain grant interventions after completion: • Assessment to support need for University to continue initiatives. • Building in staff responsibilities related to role - not just adding new responsibilities.
