B. Dangling Modifier 1. The word being modified isn’t even in the sentence • Driving around the corner, a bear suddenly jumped in front of my car. • SHOULD BE: Driving around the corner, I saw a bear suddenly jump in front of my car. • Walking swiftly down the hall, everyone stared at my new haircut. • SHOULD BE: Walking swiftly down the hall, I noticed that everyone stared at my new haircut.
IV. Restrictive vs. Nonrestrictive I. Restrictive • Referring just to that specific group • No comma 1. Students who need to buy tickets to the dance should visit the office.
II. Non-restrictive • Referring to things in general • Commas are needed 1. Dogs, who are colorblind, cannot appreciate a rainbow.
