NAS Brunswick • Former aviation training and maritime patrol facility: 3,200 acres located in two communities • Brunswick – main base: 3,175 acres • Topsham Annex: 75 acres • Compliment of nearly 5,000 military and civilian employees • Closed in June of 2011
Mission & Purpose of MRRA • Implement the Reuse Master Plans for NASB and Topsham Annex • Manage the transition of base properties from military to civilian uses • Redevelop former base properties to create new high quality jobs • Actively engage the private sector in the redevelopment effort
Vision • A science and technology park in a campus environment • Regional Executive Airport • Business-focused educational campus • Renewable Energy development • Smart Growth focus
Vision Connect Annex to Topsham Community Maintain compatibility with existing adjacent uses Integrate new uses such as: • Office space • Commercial, light industrial activities • Housing - both Medium and Higher Density
Where Have We Come since June 2011 • Received over 1,650 acres in economic and public benefit conveyances to date (80% of plan transfers) • Opened FAA certified Executive Airport (April, 2011) • Open Community College campus (2012) – current enrollment nearly 800 • Conveyed over 260 acres and 25 buildings to private sector for further redevelopment • Over 40 acres and four major buildings under contract at both Brunswick Landing and Topsham Commerce Park
Economic Impacts of Redevelopment • 25 entities doing business at Brunswick Landing creating 330 jobs with over 650 planned by end of 2014 • New Taxable Property: over $27 million • Total Property Taxes Paid: over $1million • Amount of contracts let: over $25 million
