NFPA Strategic Plan: Moving the Paralegal Profession Forward

Using the Four Planning Horizons model, the NFPA has developed a strategic plan to position itself strategically in the future. The plan includes assumptions, long-term goals, strategic objectives, and action plans.

  1. Using the Four Planning Horizon’s model as a framework, NFPA leaders involved in the process created the following: • A set of assumptions about the future of NFPA and the larger paralegal profession; • A list of relevant factors in the long-range horizon (10-20 years into the future), core purpose, core values, Big Audacious Goal (B.A.G.) and a vivid description of future success; • A set of mega issues – critical questions that will need to be answered in order for NFPA to position itself strategically in the future; • Four goal areas that identify where the NFPA will direct its energy in the next several years. The goal areas focus on outcomes beneficial to NFPA and its members. • A set of strategic objectives in each goal area setting measurable direction for the organization to head in to achieve its goals. • A set of strategies that identify the actions the organization will undertake in the next 1-3 years in order to achieve each goal area. • A set of Action Plans that identify the steps NFPA leadership and staff will need to take in order to implement the strategic plan (included in separate document).

  7. 3-5 Year Planning Horizon ~ Outcome-Oriented Goals, Objectives, and Strategies ~ Financial Stability Standards Setting for Education and Regulation Inclusive Membership Strategic Alliances

  8. To achieve financial security • Increase revenue and decrease expenses. • Increase assistance to member associations in obtaining financial stability. • Increase use of technology in order to create efficiencies and decrease expenses. • Increase financial viability of PACE.

  9. Regulation & educational standards for the profession achieved through NFPA advocacy efforts • Increase member association awareness of legislation affecting the legal profession. • Increase opportunities for paralegal strategic alliances. • Increase participation in the legislative process. • Increase member associations’ support for NFPA’s regulatory and educational positions of the profession. • Increase participation between NFPA and member associations on legislative issues.

Achieve a more inclusive membership • Increase availability of member information. • Increase responsiveness to membership inquiries. • Increase individual member awareness of NFPA activities. • Increase membership marketing resources available to member associations. • Increase target marketing efforts to non-NFPA affiliated associations.

Advance the paralegal profession through strategic alliances • Increase credibility with paralegal administrators, educators and Bar Associations. • Increase outreach to non-law firms and other paralegal associations. • Expand relationships with pro bono groups. • Increase unification of The Conclave.
