Swelling-Activated Chloride Channels hypertonic pipette solution hypotonic bath solution Cell swelling activates chloride channels. Loss of Cl- depolarizes Vm, activating Kv1.3 channels. The loss of KCl induces water efflux, restoring the original cell volume. Chloride channels are the trigger and Kv1.3 channels are required for regulatory volume decrease (RVD) in T cells. Swelling-Activated Chloride Channels are not related to multi-drug resistance (MDR) Swelling-Activated Chloride Channels in MDR Cells Cell swelling does not affect drug efflux, assessed by loss of R123. Upregulated levels of P-glycoprotein in MDR cells, but without changes in chloride conductance induced by cell swelling. Ehring et al., J. Gen. Physiol. 1994
