Accountability and Record Keeping • Students have the option of submitting an electronic summary of selected reading on district wiki OR handing in a paper copy of a recommended book for the bulletin board. • LIS professional will annotate who has read which book on an Excel spreadsheet. With the student’s first formal submission (electronically or paper) LIS will record name and mark book to record participation.

  5. Voting Procedures • Students who have successfully read and recorded four of their readings by submitting an electronic summary or paper recommendation sheet will be formally invited to the Cherry Picking Voting Party that will be held in January. • Voting will take place at the party with the Interactive Response System commonly referred to as Senteos. • Those who cannot attend the party can still submit his vote with a paper ballot. The time can be arranged with the student and LIS professional.

  6. Publicity • Books advertised in Summer Reading documents • Posters hung around school advertising the 2012 nominees, incentives, and Lunch Bunch dates/themes • Posters hung around local community businesses advertising books, program, and sponsors • Bulletin boards promoting books, recommendations, and program • PA announcements made by students and faculty about program/books (Students who participate in the announcements will be given extra credit in current English Class)

LIS Professional Timeline • Spring 2011, order all 2012 Abraham Lincoln Nominees • Spring 2011, include nominees in Summer Reading document • Spring 2011, attend department meetings to discuss books that pertain to their specific subject areas. Provide departments with book talk websites, questions, and book trailers. • Summer 2011, contact local businesses in effort to gain their support of the program • Summer 2011, research cost and availability of author visit(s) • Fall 2011, schedule book talks with English classes • Fall 2011, create and distribute flyers, assemble bulletin boards, and arrange voting for Kick Off Assembly

Awards and Incentives • “Read Some Lincoln, Earn Some Lincoln” weekly cash drawing for anyone who reads and submits electronic summary or paper recommendation • Monthly themed Lunch Bunch for students interested in the books September-Popcorn Bash October-Candy Bar Blitz November-Pizza Paparazzi December-”Ice cream” for books! January (invite only, must read 4 books)- Cherry Picking Party-Picking out your favorite book! Raffle for two movie tickets for those who attend. Additional prizes will be given to those who are able to correctly answer questions about books.

  10. Double Deuces • Participants who read ALL 22 nominated books will have their name and voting year engraved on a leaf that will be permanently displayed in LRC

  11. Kick Off Assembly • All students cast their vote during their English class for who they are most interested in for an author visit. (The list will already eliminate authors who are not available or cost more than budget allows.) • The author(s) who receives the most votes will be invited to attend our school. Multiple authors will be scheduled if budget allows. • Assemblies will be grouped by class and one available at night for Board of Education and parents.
