  2. History • Temple period: First inhabitants, built structures • Run By several groups: The Phoenicians through the French. • Current leader: British: Beat the French in a 2 year land-and-sea blockade.

Tourist Attractions • Ggantia Temples: Ggant means giant, built using the header and stretcher technique , boundary wall is the most striking. • Tarxien Temples: 4 different structures with carved designs of animals or altars. In the walls there are chambers famous for their intricate designs of a bull and a sow. • Hagar Qim Temples: overlooks a sea, basically a dig site where important relics are recovered explaining Malta’s history. Fat lady statues are found symbolizing fertility. All artifacts found are sent to the Museum of Archeology in Malta.

  4. Customs and Traditions • Eating: The Maltese eat with their fork in their left hand and their knife in the right. Hand are above the table at all times, when finished they place their utensils parallel on their plate. They wait till the whole family is done eating before they get up. • Gambling: Love to bet and gamble, hold annual bingo games and town lotteries. • Holidays: St. Paul’s Shipwreck, Setle Giugno, Imnarja, Assumption and Immaculate conception.

  5. Culture • Diet: Breakfast includes cereal and toast buttered with jam or marmalade. Use tomatoes, onions, and garlic in almost every meal. Bread and pasta are served almost everyday. The national dishes • Not a workaholic society, favorite sport is soccer, other sports include netball, waterskiing, water polo, swimming, and windsurfing. Men hunt and fish. • Family is very important: Men have the most power followed by the women.

  6. Conclusion • Overall, Malta is a country worth looking into. With all the free time the occupants have on the island there is never a dull moment. Malta’s historical legacy dating back to ancient times, magnificent structures from the temple period, customs and traditions that relate to ours here in America, and a diverse culture makes Malta one of the most fascinating countries in Europe.
