  6. Pesquisa bibliográfica da equipe do PATOCITO CORPORATION Ltda.

  7. The detection of circulating melanoma cells by molecular biological methods has been the object of recent investigations. Published results are contradicting; detection rates vary from 0%-100%. PCR assay: melanoma-associated gene markers (tyrosinase, p97, MUC18, and MAGE-3)

  8. Recent Results Cancer Res 2001;158:113-7 Morphologically Intact Melanoma Cells in Peripheral Blood of Melanoma Patients. A. Benez, U. Schiebel, G. Fierlbeck, Univ of Tübingen, Germany.

  9. In patients with disseminated disease, circulating melanoma cells were found in 13 out of 85 patients (15%) examined.   We present a new, cellular approach to identify circulating melanoma cells in peripheral blood using immunomagnetic method.

  10. The number of positive cells varied from 2 to 2364. This corresponds to about 0.5 to more than 400 melanoma cells per ml whole blood. To our knowledge we are the first to demonstrate that morphologically intact melanoma cells can be found in a number of patients with advanced disease.

  11. Applying the assay to 20-50 ml blood samples of patients with stage III-IV malignant melanomas, we were • able to detect melanoma cells in • two of eight patients (25%). Recent Results Cancer Res 2001;158:51-60
