NHTSA’s Role in Pedestrian Safety • Reducing pedestrian fatalities involves incorporating all three E’s: education, enforcement and engineering. • Develop pedestrian safety programs based on problem identification that focus on the behavioral and enforcement factors. • Conduct continuing research on pedestrian-related issues to improve countermeasures and address emerging issues. • Work with States and local agencies on implementing pedestrian safety programs.

  3. Pedestrian Education • Identify and focus efforts on the high-risk pedestrian groups and high-crash locations of pedestrians • Include stakeholders • Reach both pedestrians and motorists • 3 E’s – Education, Enforcement and Engineering
