  2. Qu’est-ce que c’est “l’impérative” ? Easy answer – the command form Longer answer – used to make suggestions, to give advice, or to give orders

  3. What are the only THREE subjects used in the command form? Tu --- Étudie le français – (You) Study French. Nous –-- Allons au cinéma – Let’s go to the movies. Vous –-- Parlez français en classe. – (All of you) Speak French in class. Notice that you do not actually write the subject in an imperative sentence.

  4. The Good News • All verbs for “nous” and “vous” are conjugated the same in the present tense and the imperative (command) tense.

  5. The Not-So-Good News • All –ER verbs and aller drop the “s” on the tu form in the imperative. Present tense: Tu ne parles pas anglais. Tu vas à l’école. Imperative: Ne parle pas anglais. Va à l’école. Look! No “s”

  6. Exception to the exception… • Add the “s” back for the phrase… Vas-y! ---Let’s go!
