Why important? • Souq Waqif is themost important heritage landmark and tourist destination, residents and citizens visited by distinguished visitors who come to Qatar from different countries, feel the originality and environment derived from traditional Islamic architecture through the use of construction materials, which built the market before more than a century to be the best witness to the lifestyle in Qatar, the purity and good hospitality of its people and all those who come to them from the various zones.
It is an old Souqwas home to several types of shops, where the Bedouin live every day in their own market by selling timber and dairy products.
The origin of the name It was so-called "Waqif" as heritage specialists say because sellers were standing on the side of the narrow path that leads to the big market in Doha to sell them things like (Herbs grow, fish ...) and often the sale was going on rapidly before entering the market.
Traditional shops • In the place there is a mixed fragrance of history . Here you find mash and deadlines, Almrkoqp , Knfruc , Alsaqo, Albulalait and other traditional dishes that taste delicious only to discover the rich country kitchen. One can also taste the falafel: Egyptian and Lebanese and Moroccan tagine and liver Nubian and other types of Arab cuisine, which is keen charge of it to satisfy the customer and the service.
This is an amazing place if you want to relax or buy some stuff for shopping or souvenirs! You will be enchanted of the ambiance from this place. It's basically the aroma of what Qatar can offer. Glimpse from the past and the present can be viewed while walking. The restaurants available are a "must see" and "must taste" for all those who love to devour the essence of what middle east food could offer.
On weekends, a local gathering can be experienced. A delight of what something this land can create a harmony from within. You are welcome to Souq Waqif!
A donkey. Yes, a real donkey for those kids to see. I named it "mighty" because it's just amazing how the animal can carry a load of an earthling.
Whatever you see in Souq Waqif will not be a complete list, but I know for a fact that it can satisfy your thirst for place, food, things and of course real people to see and saying "Kef Halak"...
