  1. Annotating homer’s the odyssey Requirements and Guidelines

Annotation Requirements • Make at least two annotations everyday that we read in class. • Be sure to record the following on each of your annotations: • Name • Date • Page number and line number(s) • Be sure to use the correct color post-it note according to your class period: 1st-Green, 2nd-Orange, 3rd-Yellow, 6th-Blue, and 7th-Pink. • Fold your post-it note in order to ensure that your annotations remain yours and no one else’s.

  3. Annotation Guidelines • As we read The Odyssey and you begin annotating, you may be wondering where to begin. The following is a list of some of the things you may want to look for and annotate as you read: • Important plot events • Character introductions and descriptions • Epic and/or odyssey characteristics • Thematic connections

  4. Annotation Assessment • Your annotations will be assessed after we read Part 1 of The Odyssey, and then again when we finish Part 2 of The Odyssey. You will remove your post-it notes and place them on a provided sheet of paper that you will then turn in. • Make sure you have at least two annotations for each day that we read in class. • I especially expect your annotations on Part 2 of The Odyssey to reflect your growth as a close reader of literature, so be sure to follow the guidelines closely and to review the feedback I provide you on your first set of annotations.
