What is a dystopia?. An imaginary place in which everything is unpleasant, usually as a result of oppressive control and/or environmental degradation. Criticizes current trends, societal norms, and/or political systems through the use of exaggerated worst - case scenarios.

Propagandais often used. • Information, independent thought, and freedoms are restricted. • A leader, figurehead, or concept is worshipped. • Citizens are under constantsurveillance. • Most citizens have a fear of the outsideworld. • The naturalworld is distrustedin favor of man-made goods. Futuristic technologies are often prominent. • Citizens conform to uniformexpectations. Individualityand dissent are bad and often lead to trouble.
